The OFCCP held a Native American Outreach Town Hall event on September 4, 2019 that included partners from the DOL’s Employment and Training Administration, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Indian Health Service and Administration for Native Americans.

OFCCP identified three action plan items for fiscal year 2020 as a result of the feedback it received during the event:

  • OFCCP’s Indian and Native American Employment Rights Program will be providing improved guidance on how to lawfully extend a preference in employment to American Indians and Alaska Natives. This will include resources on its website for agencies working directly with tribes, tribal communities and tribal organizations.
  • OFCCP is developing best practices guides and FAQs to address work on or near Indian reservations, Indian preference and a model affirmative action program that includes an Indian preference component.
  • OFCCP is implementing a program to connect federal contractors to recruitment services with Native American job seekers.
